Holi festival

Holi is the festival of colors and happily celebrated by Hindus all over the world. It is observed on full moon day of the Phagun month of Hindu calendar. Holi is recognized as a second biggest festival in Hindu calendar after Diwali. It is united with love and harmony. It also indicates good harvest. It shows freedom with unlimited colors. It finishes evil and brings victory. We should forget old grudges and spend time with our family and friends. One should forgive everything on this day and celebrate with traditions and rituals.

The stories of Lord Krishna is also associated with Holi; Lord Krishna began the tradition of playing with colours and applying the colours to his dearest Radha Rani Ji. Gradually, the play gained popularity with the people and became a tradition in areas related to the living of Lord Krishna are known as Braj. The most famous Braj place are Barsana, Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Nandagaon and Gowardhan. Holi celebration in Barsana is known as Lathmar Holi.

Gaura Purnima Shri Chaitanya MahaprabhuHoli festival is observed for two days. The first day of the Holi is known as Holika Dahan or Holi bonfire - the day when Holi bonfire is done. It is a ritual festival which celebrates the Holika death and Prahlad safety by organizing the ceremony known as the Holika Dahan. The next day is known as Rangwali Holi - the day when people play with dry and wet colors and applying colours to each other powder and colored water. Rangwali Holi, which is main Holi day, is also known as Dhulandi or Dhulendi (धुलण्डी).

In some of the regions in Indian especially in Bengal and Orissa and around the world Gaudiya Vaishnavism "the worshipers of Vishnu or Krishna" celebrates Holi Purnima as Gaura Purnima the appearance day of the Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (A.D. 1486-1534).
